Working at Elevated

We employ our housekeepers. That sentence does a lot of work in this industry, and it is the reason most people come to us and the reason most of them stay.

What we offer

  • A permanent contract of employment, not self-employment and not an introduction
  • Pay above the London Living Wage, reviewed annually
  • Paid holiday, company sick pay and a workplace pension
  • Paid travel time between houses
  • All equipment, uniform and materials provided: nothing is deducted from your wages
  • Paid training, including specialist training in stone, textile and wardrobe care
  • A supervisor you can reach, and a named contact for every house you work in
  • Regular hours in a small geographic patch, so your working day is not spent on the Circle line

We build rounds around where people live wherever we can. A housekeeper spending ninety minutes a day crossing London is a housekeeper who leaves within the year, and that costs our clients more than the travel ever would.

Who we are looking for

Experience in private households is what matters most. If you have worked in prime London homes (period houses, mansion flats, lateral apartments) you will already know the things that are hard to teach: how to be present in somebody's home without being intrusive, when to ask, and when to leave something exactly as you found it.

Hotel and commercial experience is welcome. It usually needs some unlearning, because the pace is different and the discretion required is entirely different, and we will give you the time to make that adjustment properly.

Above all we hire for judgement. A housekeeper who notices a crack appearing above a cornice, or who stops and asks rather than guessing at an unfamiliar surface, protects a client's house in a way that speed never does. We would always rather take an extra twenty minutes than take a risk.

You will need the right to work in the UK, and you will need to be comfortable with a DBS check and with us speaking to two previous households.

How we hire

A conversation first, usually by telephone, about where you have worked and what you are looking for. Twenty minutes, no forms.

A paid trial in a supervised setting. You are paid at your full rate for it whether or not either of us decides to go further, because asking someone to work unpaid to prove they can work is not something we are willing to do.

References and checks. Two private-household references, taken up by telephone and spoken to properly. A Basic DBS check, with an Enhanced check where the role is eligible for one. Right-to-work verification.

Shadowing before you start. You will work alongside an experienced colleague in your first houses before taking one of your own, and you will be introduced to each client before you work for them.

Specialist roles

Beyond general housekeeping we train and employ people in stone care, textile and upholstery care, and wardrobe management. These are skilled trades with real depth, and they pay accordingly.

If you already hold a qualification or significant experience in natural stone restoration or textile conservation, we would particularly like to hear from you: these skills are scarce and we would rather employ them than subcontract them.

Current positions

Housekeeper, West London round (Kensington, Notting Hill, Holland Park). Full time, permanent.

Housekeeper, Central round (Mayfair, Belgravia, Knightsbridge). Full time, permanent.

Relief housekeeper: covering across both rounds. Full time, permanent, for someone who enjoys variety and new houses.

We also keep a register for people who are not looking right now but would like to be told when something suitable opens. Write to us and we will keep you on it.

To apply, send a short note about where you have worked to [email protected]. A formal CV is welcome but not required: we care more about the houses you have looked after than the layout of a document.
